Third of enterprises not ready for digital transformation, Ovum warns
A third of enterprises worldwide are unprepared for digital transformation, warned Ovum .A survey of IT decision makers at no fewer than 7,000 organisations spread across 62 countries and 15 industries found that 60% consider their digital transformation is either well advanced or in progress, but only 7% believe it to be complete.
The study found that most enterprises are struggling to get to grips with omnichannel customer engagement, focusing mainly on mobile and online channels to date. 30% of respondents said they are only at the early or not-started stages, while 25% said they are at least well advanced in this area.
According to the research firm, enterprises in the financial services sector, particularly retail banks, consider themselves well on the way to achieving digital nirvana, while the retail and public sectors appear to be less well prepared.

***The European Commission has approved Microsoft's takeover of LinkedIn with conditions aimed at preserving competition between professional social networks in Europe. The Commission was concerned that Microsoft would use Windows strong position in the computer and software market to bolster LinkedIn's presence, for example by pre-installing it on PCs or integrating the social network with Office or Microsoft's CRM software. As a result it imposed conditions that Microsoft does not oblige PC manufacturers to install LinkedIn and users would be free to remove it if it was installed, and that the company ensures competing professional social networks can maintain current levels of interoperability with Office through the so-called Office add-in program and APIs.
***The Board of Directors of Brazil's National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) approved a public consultation, for a period of 30 days, of a proposal for a resolution to repeal technical standards and regulations for the certification of telecommunications products. In motivating its decision, the regulator said the resolution was necessary due to the need to monitor the technological evolution and avoid the impediment or delay of the use of products covered by new technologies in the country. The public consultation will be open until 3 January 2017.
***Cameroon : Intelsat has announced that Orange Group has renewed an agreement for satellite solutions and support that will bring 3G services to existing customers of the firm’s mobile unit in Cameroon, as well as expanding the network’s reach to remote regions of the country. Orange currently provides 2G services using satellite infrastructure provided by Intelsat, and under the new agreement, the cellco’s network will expand its geographic footprint and add a 3G offering by leveraging C-band solutions. Intelsat says its solution optimises the network to deliver the additional coverage and throughput that Orange needs to expand its reach in remote areas of the country, deliver 3G services and provide more differentiated offerings to its subscribers. Orange will expand its service territory to currently underserved remote regions and deliver data services for businesses in the region.
